Removing programs and services from Startup

How to remove programs and services from startup in Windows 10 and MacOS.

 Procedure

Select the category before for instructions. 

There are several different ways to modify the startup programs for Windows 10.

Accessing Startup Programs through Settings

  1. Click the search box and type Startup Apps. 
  2. Click on the Startup Apps button.



     
  3.  Find the app to disable, then change the state from On to Off.



    Note: The program will now no longer launch at startup.

Accessing Startup Programs through Task Manager

  1. Click in the search box and type Task Manager. 
  2. Click the Task Manager App.

    Note: Task Manager can be opened by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Esc, or by pressing Ctrl + Alt + Del and selecting Task Manager.


     
  3.  Click More Details to expand Task Manager.

    Note: This is not necessary if the task manager is already expanded.


     
  4.  Click Startup.

  5.  Click the program to disable on startup. 
  6. Click Disable.

    Note: You can also right-click and select Disable.


     
  7.  The program is removed from Startup.
  1.  Click the Apple button.
  2.  Click System Preferences....


     
  3.  Double-click Users & Groups.


     
  4.  Select Login Items.
  5.  Select the program you want to remove from startup.
  6.  Click the Minus button.



    Note: You may have to click the lock icon to unlock Users and Groups to allow editing.
