Reformatting a flash drive in Windows

 Objective

To reformat a USB Flash Drive in Windows, refer to the instructions below.

 Audience

 Environment  

  • Windows 10

 Procedure

  1. Click the Start button and then type File Explorer and hit the Enter key.


     
  2. Right-click the drive containing your flash drive.


     
  3. Click Format…
     
  4. In the File System list, select the desired File System and then click Start.

    Note: The NTFS file system can only be used with Windows, while the FAT file system can be used with both Windows and Apple.


     
  5. A warning message will come up, click OK.


     
  6. Once you receive a message that says Format Complete, click OK.

    Note: Reformatting your flash drive permanently deletes all files from the device.
