Associating a file type with an app in Windows

 Procedure

Method One

1. Open Windows settings from the Start menu.
    
2. In the Find a setting search box, type and select Default apps.
   
   
    
3. In the window that appears, select Choose default apps by file type.
   
   
    
4. Select the desired file type and select the program you wish to associate with the file.
   
   
   
   Note: This course of action is best if you know a specific file type you would like opened by a specific program.

Method Two

1. Open File Explorer, and navigate to a file of the type you would like to specify the default program for.
    
2. Right-click on the file and select Open with, then in the sub-menu that appears select Choose another app.
   
   
    
3. In the window that appears, select the app you wish to associate with the file type and check the box for the Always use this app to open .___ files option, then click OK.
