Learn how to manage your email so you can ensure that the email you want to receive arrives in your inbox and the email you don't want to see is weeded out of your inbox or never arrives in your inbox. Office 365 has various features that will help you manage your inbox. The following are a few terms to become familiar with:

  • Block/Allow - use the Block or Allow settings to help control unwanted and unsolicited email messages by creating and managing lists of email addresses and domains (, that you trust and those you don't.
  • Clutter - Clutter is an email sorting tool that learns your email habits and then filters and moves low-priority messages you typically ignore (not Junk mail) to the Clutter folder.
  • Junk email - unwanted messages and images such as spam and phishing scams.
  • Phishing is a fraud in which the attacker tries to learn information such as login credentials or account information by masquerading as a reputable entity or person in email, instant messaging, or other communication channels.
  • Rules - actions performed on arriving messages based on specific criteria.
  • Safe Senders - Safe senders and recipients are domains and people you don't want to be diverted to your Junk Email folder.
  • Sweep - Use Sweep to delete unwanted emails in your inbox quickly. The sweep gives you options to delete all incoming emails automatically, keep only the latest email, or delete emails older than ten days from a particular sender.
