How to request a course shell or a credit course section in Canvas

Describes how to request a course shell or a credit course section in Canvas and manage student roster adds.

In K-State Canvas individuals cannot create courses themselves.

Full time staff may request a course shell for academic or administrative purposes such as organizing and communicating with student cohorts of various types, academic or administrative processes, and other purposes. 

• The request for a new course shell can be made using this form: https://support.ksu.edu/TDClient/30/Portal/Requests/TicketRequests/NewForm?ID=h9GDFPFJJ8M_&RequestorType=ServiceOffering
• Any existing manually created courses for academic or administrative can be moved to a Canvas sub-account which allows the owners to add students and manage it.  Please make a request to move your existing course(s) using this form: https://support.ksu.edu/TDClient/30/Portal/Requests/TicketRequests/NewForm?ID=h9GDFPFJJ8M_&RequestorType=ServiceOffering

Manually created courses for the purpose of splitting a credit course into different groups or cohorts is not allowed. 

• These instead will be created as sections under the KSIS credit course. Please request the sections needed using this form: https://support.ksu.edu/TDClient/30/Portal/Requests/TicketRequests/NewForm?ID=h9GDFPFJJ8M_&RequestorType=ServiceOffering

Related, the ability to add students to credit course rosters is not allowed but is allowed for requested course shells.

• Any students needing access to a credit course (courses created by KSIS) in Canvas should be added via KSIS and they will be added via integration to the course within minutes in most cases.
