K-State Canvas is for credit courses and student enrollments are driven by KSIS. Manually adding students to KSIS credit course shells is not allowed. Manually creating courses to deliver credit material or collect student academic work is not allowed. Course shells for development and reuse of course material are allowed and can be requested, see below.
For communication or info sharing with a group of students, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Groups & Sharepoint site, or OrgCentral should be used. Communication platforms for student engagement are being considered for the future.
K-State removes the ability for individuals to create courses themselves via the Create New Course button
- Manually created courses are no longer allowed for purposes such as organizing and communicating with student cohorts of various types, academic or administrative processes, and other purposes. They should be created in Teams, Sharepoint or OrgCentral.
- Manually created courses for the purpose of splitting a credit course into different groups or cohorts is no longer allowed.
K-State also removes the ability for manually adding students to credit (created by KSIS) course rosters.
- Any students needing access to a credit course (courses created by KSIS) in Canvas should be added via KSIS and they will be added via integration to the course within minutes.
