Zoom AI Companion was made available to use on May 21st, 2025 at K-State. The AI Companion panel has been enabled by default while Meeting Summary and Smart Recording has been disabled but can be turned on by individuals. Usage of AI Companion will display a disclaimer to all participants in the meeting, giving them the option to opt out and leave the meeting. This article outlines the available features, how to enable them and how to use them.

Details
After careful consideration, Zoom AI Companion was made available to use at K-State. The 4 core features of AI Companions are: AI Companion panel, Meeting Questions, Meeting Summary, and Smart Recording. AI settings and other Zoom settings can be customized by going to https://ksu.zoom.us/profile and logging in with your eID and password.
AI Companion panel
The AI Companion panel is enabled by default. To turn it on, click the AI Companion icon. 
Once visible you can use the panel to ask questions about past meetings, future meetings and general questions.

Meeting Questions
Meeting questions allow hosts and participants to ask questions to AI Companion during a meeting and is enabled by default.
How to enable/disable Meeting Questions.
Meeting questions must be started by the host in order to be made available for the meeting. To start AI Companion for the meeting. Click the AI Companion icon in meeting control.

Meeting questions can be used by participants and hosts to catch up to the meeting so far, ask specific action items or questions in general.

Meeting Summary
Meeting Summary is disabled by default.
How to enable/disable Meeting Summary.
If enabled and turned on in a meeting by clicking the AI Companion icon
, Meeting Summary generate an AI summary of the meeting that the host can choose to share after the meeting.

Smart Recording
Smart Recording is disabled by default.
How to enable/disable Smart Recording.
Smart recording has 4 features you can choose to turn on which enhances Zoom Cloud Recordings.
Create recording highlights: Zoom will automatically highlight the most important parts of the recording. Hosts can adjust the highlights as needed and share the video summary with users.
Create smart chapters: Zoom will automatically group sections of the recording into chapters with an overview. Hosts can edit the chapters manually.
Create next steps: Zoom will automatically summarize any actions to take after the recorded session. Hosts can edit the next steps manually.
Meeting coaching: Zoom will provide additional analytics on key meeting and conversation factors, including talk speed, talk-listen ratio, longest spiel (or monologue), filler word usage, and patience.

Disclaimer and Consent
If the host of a meeting turns on AI Companion or if participants join a meeting where AI Companion is already in use. The disclaimer below will display before the participant can participate in the meeting further, allowing the participant to acknowledge AI Companion usage or to leave the meeting if they do not consent to its use.

All meetings with AI Companion enabled will have the AI Companion icon displaying in the status bar.
