DARS/uAchieve Exception: K-State 8 (K8)

This procedure walks you through the steps to add a K-State 8 exception to a student audit.

 Objective

This procedure walks you through the steps to add a K-State 8 exception to a student audit. Prior to Fall 2024, K-State 8 was the general education requirement. This exception allows users to manipulate how courses satisfy the K-State 8 requirement.

 Procedure

1. From the student profile menu, select Exceptions.
   
   Note: Depending on the size of your screen, you may need to expand the student menu by clicking Student Menu.
   
   
    
2. Click Add Exception.
   
   
    
3. Select K-State 8 or the K8 code.
   
   
    
4. Fill in the fields of the exception.
   
   Course Taken by Student: Enter the target course. The format is *****##### where * resembles the subject area and # resembles the catalog number. Note there are 10 characters so that you can type in non-equivalent courses such as ENGL-1:01.
   
   Year/Term: Use if there are multiple attempts of the target course.
   
   Credit Hours: Not applicable in this type of exception.
   
   Add Code 1/2: List "v" as the first condition code to add. This identifies the course as a K-State 8 applicable course. The second condition code will match the appropriate requirement in K-State 8 (see list below). This pulls the course into the requirement in K-State 8. Up to two condition codes can be added to the target course per exception.
   
   Remove Code 1/2: Up to two condition codes can be removed from the target course per exception, but not required.
   
   Message displayed on audit: Text here will display under the course title.
   
   Memo: Used for internal purposes and optional.
   
   Authorized by: Defaults to your user ID.
   
   Date: Defaults to current date. This date should resemble the date the exception was added (it does not influence if/when the exception takes effect).
   
   
   
   Click Save.
    
5. You will return to the exception menu.
   
   - Click the code (CC for example) to see a general overview of the exception (no editing options).
   - Click the edit icon to edit the exception.
   - Select the delete box and then click Delete (at least one must be checked before active) to remove the exception.
   
   
    
6. Re-run the audit to see the effects of your exception. Click the Audits drop down from the student menu. Select Request New.
