Configure a remote desktop from a personal home computer.

Procedure
Determine Windows 10 Version
In
Windows
search, type
System Information
and press
Enter
.
Check the Windows version.
Click the Windows version below to view the instructions.
Windows 10
In
Windows
search, type
Remote Desktop Connection
.
Open the app and click
Show Options
.
For the computer name, type in the name of the PC to be remotely accessed.
User name format is
USERS\eID.
Note:
A shortcut can be saved to your desktop.
Click
Allow me to save my credentials
to store credentials for each use.
Click
Save As
to save the remote connection to the desktop.
Click
Connect
.
Type your password and click
OK
.
If a certificate warning displays, select
Don’t ask me again
and click
Yes
.
Note:
This signs in to the remote PC. During this time the screens at work will blank out for security.
Windows 10 S Mode
If your computer uses Windows 10 S Mode, go to the Microsoft Store at
https://apps.microsoft.com/store/apps
.
Search for
Microsoft Remote Desktop
.
Download and install the app.
Open
the app.
Click
+Add
and select
Desktop
.
Search for Microsoft Remote Desktop.
Install it to add the Remote Desktop Client to Windows 10 Home.
Type the
PC name
and user account.
Click
+
to add an account using the format of
USERS\eid
and your eID password.
The Add a desktop area should be similar to the picture below. Click
Save
.
The screen displays a saved desktop to which you can remotely connect.
Double-click
on the new desktop connection.
Click
Don’t ask again
box on the certificate warning and click
Connect
.
Type in your password when asked for credentials and click
Connect
.
Note:
You are connected to your remote PC. During this time screens at the remote PC blank out for security.
